Playful Kid Sets the Garage Door off
Whenever you organize a kid’s party you know that something somewhere is going to go wrong. Someone is going to touch parts that they are not supposed to touch and you will be expected to rescue the situation. It was not without some trepidation that I organized a Saturday afternoon party for my children’s friends in the neighborhood. It was not going to be a fancy affair as I fully expected that there was going to be lots of mess particularly for an age range of 5-9. What I did not count upon was the possibility that someone was going to try to set my garage door on fire. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the structure and everything wrong with the kid that took to the matches like some avenging soul.
Fire and Brimstone in our backyard
I had been warned not to give the kids matches despite their pleadings. This was not bonfire night and I did not want any incidents happening at inconvenient times. My wife was supervising but with the best will in the world you can do very little to control a bunch of kids that want to do mischief anyway. Our smoke alarm immediately told us that something was wrong. Upon investigation we found that it was actually the garage that was in trouble. The kid that set it off had already run away. Thankfully the wooden part was supported by strong steel frames. The fire extinguisher we have came in handy as we quickly put out the fire before it could get to the electrics. Part of the wood had been destroyed and I had a very frightened little boy who now wanted his mommy and daddy.
The great thing about garage door repair Houston is the fact that they actually respond when you contact them during an emergency. We gave them a call and they sent a technician round. He told us that there was no significant damage apart from the wooden exterior that would have to be replaced. At the same time he gave us the option of using a fully steel garage door as a precaution against such hazards. We loved the wood so much that we decided that it was better to keep it and run the risk of someone trying to set it off again. However, the rest of the repair work was done and the technician was soon on his way. Thank God that young fire-setter did not set us lots of dollars back with his antics.
