My Teenage Son Gets his Hoodie Stuck in our Garage Door

That was really the last thing I needed after a particularly long week at work. When I first installed my garage door, I took the time to explain all the safety features to my children right from the toddlers to the semi-teenagers. However, I had not banked on the fact that they would not really listen to what I was saying. My teenage son Tom is particularly infuriating at this stage of his life. Nothing I say seems to be right and he would be happier listening to virtually anybody else. So…it seems that all that detail I gave him about the dangers of playing with the garage door just went over his head. To be fair…he later told me that he was not playing but was getting his rollers back into the garage door where we normally store them. In any case I believe that he really should have been more careful especially after I had spent so much time speaking to him.

The garage door that traps people

I was not there when the drama unfolded but the stories I had from my seven year old daughter Esther and Tom goes as follows: Tom was wearing a hoodie and had just completed putting his skates in the garage. He was rushing out and failed to release the remote control properly. Apparently he had used the right pass code but failed to get out of the way before the door could close. The long and short of it is that I found my twelve year old crying his eyes out. The trapped hoodie had not given him enough time to leave before the door snapped. His left toe was broken and not in a good way. We did call the hospital and asked our local contractor garage door repair Houston to have a look at the entire installation. They advised that we needed to do some repair work on both the rollers and openers.

Of course they also told me about the importance of educating my son. After a visit to the local hospital, he is back to his old self. I rather suspect that he is a bit wiser now and will listen to me. The garage door is working like a dream after the contractor came out. The moral of the story is that children can never be completely trusted to follow instructions but I am also grateful to my contractor for doing such a wonderful job.
