Mommy Drives Right through the Garage Door
I have been meaning to speak to my mom about stopping driving for quite some time now. Her coordination is not what it used to be and there are plenty of people around the house who can take for errands. Anyway things literally came to a head recently when mom drove her golf right through the garage door as if it never existed at all. Luckily she was not harmed although I had to say goodbye to the wooden frame and also had to do some minor repairs on the front bend of her car. Visibly shaken, she asked me what happened and I could not answer since I was not in the car with her. When we were chatting about it later it seems to me that she must have fallen asleep at the wheel right in front of our compound!!
Way too early to hit garage doors
Mom said that she was particularly exhausted after an out-of-state visit to a friend. She kept driving and did not remember much. However, she also told us that a few minutes prior to the accident she actually remembered thinking about going to bed with a nice cocoa. I think the imagination went straight to the head and she sort of started getting an early start on the slip. That is not a joking matter when you are driving in front of garage doors. I shudder to think what would happen if she had not had the foot peddles on soft. Mom says she only woke up when she heard the car crashing. There was a funny side to it as long as mom was ok. We now have the serious business of getting her to give up driving. At the moment she is resisting saying that it was only one accident and nobody was harmed. For me it is one accident too many. She needs to give up the wheel before something really terrible happens.
On the practical side, we got help from garage door repair Houston who were able to quickly restore the installation. I insisted that some photos be taken so that I can tease mommy about her boy racer ways. Hopefully the teasing will cajole her into doing the sensible thing. At the same time I know that I have been tired often when getting home so I will need to watch out just in case I surprise my wife in the kitchen with a loud bang.
